FibreSpan completes a new 9km Data Centre network connection

For Cheshire West and Chester Borough Council

London, United Kingdom, 23 July 2009

Working to a challenging four month timescale, FibreSpan has successfully delivered a 9km multiple core high speed fibre network linking Cheshire West and Chester Council’s key operational sites with its new primary Data Centre.

The new state-of-the-art Data Centre is due for completion at the end of July and will house not only all of the Cheshire West and Chester Council’s systems and applications, but also those of Cheshire East Council, supporting a combined population in excess of 650,000 people.

With an ever increasing reliance on ICT systems to deliver front line services to the public in its geographic area, the Council recognised the need to update and enhance its Data Centre capability as part of its forward-thinking 25-year Data Centre strategy.

FibreSpan was selected not only for the benefits of its National Telecommunications Licence, commercial offering, technical solution, project management skills and “in life” support; but also because of its reputation for providing the best value dark fibre solutions and responsive service.

Whilst working closely with the Council, FibreSpan’s project team ensured that the client could concentrate on other key aspects of the project, reinforced here by Paul Hayward, the Council’s Project Manager, “It’s a testament to how well this all this has gone in that, at the outset, getting the fibre laid in time was our biggest concern; but ended up being the least of our worries.”

Thanks to FibreSpan, the Council’s 25-year Data Centre strategy is now underpinned by the flexibility of the FibreSpan network providing endless scope to evolve with its continually changing needs and service delivery requirements.

Summarising the advantages of FibreSpan’s service, Justin Williams, Programme Manager for Cheshire West and Chester Borough Council, said “Leasing bespoke, seamless and secure dark fibre from FibreSpan provides us with a flexible futureproof network which will develop with the Council’s requirement.”
