FibreSpan brings in the New Year
With Cheshire County Council’s new Data Centre connection
London, United Kingdom, 10 January 2009
FibreSpan, one of the UK’s leading independent dark fibre telecoms specialists, has started 2009 with a bang after winning a competitive bid for Cheshire County Council’s new Data Centre connectivity. The 800 square metre state-of-the-art Data Centre is due for completion summer 2009 and will house all of the County’s systems and applications.
In order to facilitate high-speed, secure connectivity between locations, the Council needed a supplier that could build a dedicated fibre optic network. Having met all the necessary requirements, FibreSpan was chosen to deploy and maintain a nine kilometre fibre optic ring around Chester city centre that will provide for the Council’s current and future connectivity needs. The fibre ring will form an essential part of the Council’s disaster recovery plan and will be completed on schedule, by May 2009.
‘With many of the country’s councils under immense pressure to provide services dependent on fast and secure connectivity, it is clear that dedicated connections are a must. FibreSpan provides a unique solution by giving such clients bespoke, private, secure connections with the ability to increase bandwidth as they need it,’ says FibreSpan Chief Executive, Robert Bicket.
As part of the OGC Telecoms Framework Agreement, Cheshire was able to move quickly through the procurement process knowing that all OGC suppliers are pre-approved for public sector work. Ultimately however, Cheshire chose Fibrespan not only because of its Framework status, but because of its reputation for providing the best value dark fibre solutions and most responsive service.
