FibreSpan provides vital link for Imperial College London

London, United Kingdom - 17 August 2011

FibreSpan, a national network carrier specialising in dedicated dark fibre and ultra-high bandwidth network services, provides vital link for Imperial College London network upgrade.

The university had a requirement to upgrade part of its physical network infrastructure at its Royal Brompton Campus, to provide reliable high bandwidth data services for key research groups, replacing existing services which failed to deliver the required resilience and bandwidth.

Imperial College London had an established relationship with FibreSpan following earlier deployments and contacted the company to provide a solution. All aspects of the planning and delivery were managed by FibreSpan, as well as on-going support of the point-to-point fibre circuit, which was handed-off at the specified demarcation points for ‘plug and play’ bespoke network connectivity.

“The technology is flexible for current and future needs as dark fibre allows us to adapt the bandwidth as required, as opposed to leased lines that need to be upgraded every time technology moves forward - the associated costs with that are not insignificant,” comments Antonio Barbosa, Network Infrastructure Manager at Imperial College London.

Consistently rated amongst the world's best universities, Imperial College London is a science-based institution with a reputation for excellence in teaching and research.
