The London College of Beauty Therapy
Improves learning resources with FibreSpan Gigabit backbone
London, United Kingdom, 12 January 2007
The London College of Beauty Therapy has selected FibreSpan, the premier provider of affordable dark fibre, to deploy a fibre link between its main campus site and a new building to aid expansion of the College.
The current academic year marks the 12th anniversary of the College, which has experienced significant growth since it was established. It was recognised that the current site was at its limit in providing the very best learning environment for its students and will struggle to accommodate future growth.
The College acquired a building across the road from its current site to provide three further floors offering additional learning facilities, an IT unit and employee resource space. The College required a resilient communication link between the two buildings and a secure fibre link was the preferred method to deliver voice and data services as well as transmit CCTV digital assets.
FibreSpan was selected due to its presence in the area – which resulted in a fast installation and a highly responsive service. Furthermore it was able to provide a dedicated resilient Gigabit fibre backbone with a market leading SLA – at the right price.
Paul Killington, IT Manager, London College of Beauty Therapy, said: “We selected FibreSpan because of its high visibility in this area and its ability to provide an exacting service at the right price. The quality of service delivery was exceptional throughout, from initial consultation through to installation, the team were incredibly responsive and a pleasure to work with. The GigaSpan link has proved to be highly resilient with zero network downtime.”
The two sites have to exchange data at all times and having a high-speed and dependable link is essential for the College. Without this link the college would not be in a position to provide its excellent learning resources and access to teaching materials would be difficult.
The long-term success of the service will be measured by its performance over time - based on the absence of network downtime. Although the College has contracted the GigaSpan service, it has the ability to rapidly upgrade to FibreSpan’s dark fibre solution as requirements evolve in the future.
