FibreSpan completes second deployment for Leeds Met University
London, United Kingdom, 11 November 2006
FibreSpan has now deployed the second stage of a bespoke dark fibre network in Leeds bustling city centre for Leeds Metropolitan University, one of the largest universities in the UK.
Earlier this year, FibreSpan provided a dedicated dark fibre link from the main university campus to a new faculty in the city centre’s landmark Electric Press building, connecting a third building on route. The network extension has now connected a fourth building (the School of Law) south of the city centre, which has doubled the size of the network.
The university sought a high bandwidth network and dark fibre was identified as the preferred technology. Its bandwidth requirements are continually expanding as it runs an increasing number of services across the network - it also has a longer-term strategy to run voice communications over Ethernet.
The university was attracted to FibreSpan’s affordable and competitive solution, winning the contract against a BT and other incumbent Telcos with network already present in the area.
Tony Crossland, Network Manager at Leeds Metropolitan University comments: “Both stages of the deployment have proved to be a tremendous success, deployed rapidly and without disruption in a busy city centre. We now have FibreSpan’s dedicated communication links between our buildings, which provides us with unlimited bandwidth for the duration of our contract, at a fixed and competitive price.”
