Research Councils Select FibreSpan for High-Speed LAN Solution

London, United Kingdom, 24 October 2007

FibreSpan, the premier provider of private dark fibre networks, has announced that it has entered into an agreement to provide a resilient dark fibre LAN extension for the national Research Councils, the strategic partnership of the UK’s seven Research Councils.

As part of a project to establish a Shared Services Centre, the Councils identified an additional facility in Swindon and needed to extend their LAN to this location with a future proof, high-speed link.  The Councils selected FibreSpan on the basis of its superior technical ability, quality of service, network capability, resilience and economic viability.

Investing around £2.8 billion in research per annum, its activity covers the full spectrum of academic disciplines including medical and biological sciences, astronomy, physics, chemistry, engineering, social sciences, economics, the arts and humanities.

“In order to meet the requirements of the Research Councils, we were able to propose a solution which not only facilitated their connectivity requirements, but also provided a future-proof network solution capable of coping with high-bandwidth demands” comments Adam Wheeler, Sales Manager of FibreSpan.

FibreSpan has worked with government organisations since 2002 and currently provides private fibre networks to many public and private sector organisations across the country.  Customers are attracted to its fixed price unlimited bandwidth model, with moderate capital costs and low recurrent costs, make it affordable to build high performance private fibre networks.
