London, United Kingdom, 29 June 2007
St George’s University of London has selected FibreSpan, the premier provider of private dark fibre networks, to provide a link for a new LAN extension.
St George’s University of London offers medicine and health sciences, and is part of the confederation of colleges that constitute the University of London. It shares its main campus with St George’s Healthcare NHS Trust, one of the busiest hospitals in the NHS.
The 1600m network will link the main campus with student halls and a remote server room. As an independent dual institution, both the University and NHS Trust will benefit from the secure, high-speed, dedicated network delivered by the service.
The network is due to be deployed during the summer and offers the University a highly flexible, reliable and cost-effective way to deliver secure communications between its sites.
FibreSpan has worked with UK academic organisations since 2002 and currently provides private fibre networks to many institutions across the country including those in the cities of London, Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds and Cardiff. Universities are attracted to its fixed price unlimited bandwidth model, with moderate capital costs and low recurrent costs, make it affordable to build high performance private fibre networks.
