The University of Manchester recently appointed FibreSpan to provide a leased dark fibre circuit to link its data centres.
The need for such dedicated infrastructure was highlighted when the University made plans to establish a second data centre to improve disaster recovery and resilience. As the client required an unrestricted and scalable network, dark fibre was identified as the preferred option.
After a lengthy review of the market, FibreSpan was selected, based on its reputation for providing affordable bespoke dark fibre networks. FibreSpan build their networks at the most competitive rate and charge a fixed annual fee regardless of bandwidth or usage. The university carried out a cost analysis using a seven-year model and found that FibreSpan’s proposal represented the most cost effective solution on the market.
Further cost savings were to be gained when FibreSpan identified the opportunity to link a secondary building en-route.
