Wirral Hospital NHS Trust Chooses FibreSpan Solution

London, United Kingdom, 21 June 2005

Wirral NHS has appointed FibreSpan to provide a private dark fibre network between the main hospital campus and a new office built to accommodate the finance department.  The agreement enables the Trust to facilitate high-speed voice and data communications across a secure link.

Several providers were involved in the selection process - their techniques, services and costs assessed.  FibreSpan was appointed as a cost competitive alternative to a 10Mb BT LES circuit, enabling the client to run multiple applications without any restriction.

The Trust was attracted to the solution as it provides unlimited bandwidth at a fixed cost, a package that is not available from incumbent providers.  The new unrestricted dark fibre link is aligned with a long-term strategic decision to combine all voice and data communications across single circuits.

Using its patent-pending microduct technology, FibreSpan rapidly deployed the link within agreed time-scales, providing the Trust with access to a bespoke, fully maintained, leased dark fibre circuit.
